The desert rain frog, native to Namibia and South Africa, makes an unusually high-pitched squeak (actually a "war cry") similar to the sound of a squeaky toy, especially when it is provoked. This species of frog develops directly from eggs into the adult form, and there is no aqueous tadpole stage.
